White Sands, New Mexico is 275 square miles of gypsum sand, and unlike normal beach sand, really is white rather than yellow. This kind of thing is rare because gypsum dissolves in water and in most places is washed to the sea, but these sands are in the Tularosa Basin which has no outlet.
