Some shots from a week in Greenland. I was based in Ilulissat, on the west coast 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Every evening we would go out in a small boat and look for icebergs, whales, and good light, which lasted until 11:00 PM or so.
Ilulissat means "iceberg" in Greenlandic. Greenland’s Ilulissat Icefjord is the sea mouth of Sermeq Kujalleq, one of the few glaciers through which the Greenland ice cap reaches the sea. Sermeq Kujalleq is one of the fastest and most active glaciers in the world. It annually calves over 35 billion cubic meters, or 8 cubic miles, of ice, more than any other glacier outside Antarctica
Greenland isn't easy to get to. You have to fly to Reykjavik or Copenhagen and then take a small plane from there.
